Its distinctive appearance makes it particularly suitable for weddings, ceremonies, events, photo shoots and advertising productions. Stepping inside transforms even a short journey into an original, elegant experience full of character.
History:
The history of London taxis dates back to the 17th century, when the first horse-drawn public carriages began carrying passengers through the streets of the city. With the arrival of motor vehicles in the early 20th century, the service evolved and purpose-built cars were developed to meet the demands of traffic in the British capital.
Among them, the Austin FX4 became the Black Cab par excellence. Introduced in 1958 as the successor to the FX3, it was developed by Austin in collaboration with specialist dealership Mann & Overton and coachbuilder Carbodies. Its elegant and instantly recognisable shape remained in production, under different brands and through several updates, until 1997.
The model was designed around the specific requirements of London taxi service: a spacious passenger compartment, a robust structure, easy access and a tight turning circle, essential for navigating the city’s narrow and busy streets. Over the years, its engine and equipment were updated without significantly altering a design that had become an integral part of London’s urban landscape.
This 1972 vehicle belongs to an important stage in the evolution of the FX4, marked by the introduction of Austin’s 2.5-litre diesel engine. Solid, spacious and unmistakably British, the Black Cab accompanied several generations and became, together with the red double-decker buses, telephone boxes and Big Ben, one of London’s most beloved symbols.
Even today, its silhouette immediately evokes the atmosphere of the British capital. It is an icon that combines tradition, elegance and the distinctive British charm that continues to make it unique.
